Hike Along Besseggen Ridge, Jutenheimen National Park

14km, 1,200 metre elevation, 22,000 steps!! 👌💪
If you’re up for a hike in Norway & feeling fit, then Besseggen Ridge in Jutenheimen National Park is an incredible experience! Not for the faint hearted though, with steep & rocky terrain for the most part but the views are spectacular.
We had beautiful weather on the day with no rain but the wind added a real chill factor & proved challenging on the higher points, especially the final ascent to the top where you are basically scrambling the rock face on your hands & knees!
Walking along the ridge & down the other side is a little easier but still a lot of rock & some steep parts so good comfortable hiking shoes are a must. Along with all weather gear & plenty of food & water.
Well worth the effort though with a visit from a heard of reindeer along the way & the emerald waters of the Gjende Lake are breathtaking. You can start the hike at either end but the most popular route is to take a ferry from Gjendesheim to Memurubu and start your hike from there.
Quite a bit of accommodation in the area as well. We stayed at Besseggen Fjellpark, Maurvangen which is just a short bus ride to the ferry. There you will find cosy cabin accomodation, bar & restaurant & even a friendly reindeer who wanderers freely throughout the park! 😁
