Trolltunga – Troll’s Tongue

Another amazing hike and probably the most famous one of all in Norway is Trolltunga. Translated to ‘Troll’s tongue’ in English, it is a unique cliff that looks just like the tongue of a troll!

Trolltunga is no doubt one of the most awe-inspiring cliffs in Norway, situated approximately 1,100 metres above sea level. It is located west of Oslo, toward Bergen and at the western edge of the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, near the town of Odda. Both Trolltunga and the valley below were carved out by an icecap that covered most of Scandinavia during a series of ice ages. Hiking season without a guide runs from 1 June to 31 August and it takes most of the day to reach Trolltunga so make sure you start your hike before 8am to ensure you’ll be back before dark. Recently, our son and Norwegian niece have both completed this hike with the most amazing photos to show for it and an experience they won’t forget!
